Now you can use Apple AirPlay to stream movies, TV shows, music, Fitness+ workouts, Arcade games, photo slideshows, and more from your iPhone to TVs in hotels. At the moment, AirPlay only works in about 60 IHG hotels with LG TVs. However, it will be added to more places “in the coming months.”
It took a year to make this happen. At the 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple first talked about its plan to bring AirPlay to hotels. Google’s version of AirPlay, called Chromecast, is now available in hundreds of hotels. I don’t know why it took Apple so long to get this right, but Apple is a bit behind the times.
To be more specific, the LG smart TVs in IHG hotels already work with AirPlay. Hotels just turn this feature off because of how AirPlay works with WiFi devices—you wouldn’t want a stranger to be able to connect to your TV, etc. It seems that Apple has done away with the wireless pairing process in favor of a QR code on the screen.

For a hotel TV that works with AirPlay, read the QR code on the home screen of the TV. Each hotel room has its own QR code, which rests when you check out. If you share something to a TV over AirPlay, Apple says that neither hotel workers nor other guests can see it.
In addition, you can connect more than one gadget. With Apple AirPlay, a family can connect all of their Apple devices to a hotel TV. The QR code will appear every time the TV goes back to its home screen.
Keep in mind that to use Apple AirPlay in hotels, you need an iPhone X or later that is running at least iOS 17.3. It’s also possible to use an iPad, as long as it can handle the 17.3 update. Some AirPlay features, like Apple Arcade games and Fitness+ workouts, need extra subscriptions, though you may already have these with the Apple One package.
It is possible to see a full list of IGH hotels that accept Apple AirPlay on the IGH website. It’s important to know that IGH owns many other resorts and hotel groups, such as Holiday Inn, Avid, and Staybridge Suites. Some of these restaurants are in Canada and Mexico, but most of them are in the United States.
